This year, India is celebrating it’s 72nd Independence Day in the honour of all the freedom fighters who fought hard to get back our country from the British. Instead of reminiscing about the past, let’s focus on how far we’ve come since 1947. Especially, how women have become leading figures in our society. Today, women have left no stone unturned, be it politics, sports, entertainment, literature, technology, women are conquering every field. Many have taken an active role in the development of our economy. So let’s celebrate those who have made our society a better place to live in.

Nirmala Sitharaman

She has made the entire community of women proud by taking the mantle of Defense Minister of India. She is from Tamil Nadu and has a PhD under her belt, along with an M.Phil. As a BJP supporter, she rose quickly in its ranks to become the Defense Minister of India. Apart from her political career, she has also worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers and BBC World Services. Today, she has more than a million employees under her, not to mention the armed forces and the largest cut of our yearly budget.

Vani Kola

Vani Kola is the woman who has made many careers. She is a venture capitalist who founded Kalaari Capital, an early stage venture capital firm. She has facilitated the growth of many startups by providing them with the capital they needed to grow. She has an eye for spotting talent and some of the renowned start-ups she funded are Zivame, Bluestone, Urban Ladder, YourStory, Popxo, StalkBuyLove, and countless others.

Sushma Swaraj

Sushma Swaraj is a media sweetheart with a down to earth personality. She is the Minister of External Affairs of India and has been known to tackle all problems that come her way with grace. She is the former president of BJP and a senior leader. She is also a former Supreme Court lawyer. Since she resumed this post, India’s foreign relations have become increasingly pleasant. Her work makes her stand apart from others and gives all of the womankind a leader to look upto.

These are just three of the numerous women who are making a change in our current scenario. Many others are taking the patriarchy by its whim and showing the world that they are their own boss.
